Red Fox Restaurant

Our first dining experience in Mariposa was at the Red Fox. This was a small cozy restaurant with an Italian feel to the dining room. (Grape motif, etc.) Dave and I both ordered the Blackened Prime Rib. Dinner came with homemade soup or salad. Dave and I both got the salad. Heidi's was a garden salad with a great variety of fresh greens, including fresh sprouts. Dave got the Caesar salad, which came with a whole anchovie. We both enjoyed our salads, except for when Dave cut a pepperccini with a knife and shot pepper juice at Heidi.

The prime rib was excellent and super tender. Although, the waitress looked at Heidi like she was nuts when she requested some horseraddish for the prime rib! Dinner came with choice of potato, and seasoned vegetables. Dave got mashed potatos and Heidi ordered a baked potato, which came topped with melted cheese and sour cream on the side.

The staff was friendly and very attentive to us. We really enjoyed our first dinner out in Mariposa!

Gold Rush Grill

On our second night in Mariposa, we chose to have dinner at the Gold Rush Grill & Saloon. The atmosphere was fun and friendly. The decor was rustic with neon beer signs, etc. Our hostess was very friendly and we found out she will be attending Sonoma State University this fall. Our waiter was also very proficient and came back to check to make sure he got Heidi's potato order right (sour cream on the side).

Dinner came with choice of soup or salad, and we both chose the salad. Their standard house salad was spinach and greens with hot bacon dressing topped with chopped hardboiled egg. It was excellent! We also received two freshly baked biscuits that were still steaming. they were very soft and tasty!

Dave ordered the Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo. He said it was very tasty, and had a very creamy sauce. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the chicken had a nice seasoning. Heidi ordered the Grilled Halibut, which had a really nice smoky grilled flavor to it. The Halibut also came with a bowl of corn chowder and a baked potato.

We both really enjoyed dinner and would go to the Gold Rush Grill & Saloon next time we are visiting Mariposa!

Mariposa Pizza Factory

On our last night in Mariposa, we had to have a very late dinner because we had spent a full day of hiking and taking a tour around Yosemite. We chose the Mariposa Pizza Factory for dinner, because it looked like a nice place and we thought it would be fast and easy.

We both ordered a salad bar, which seemed to be pretty fresh and had a good variety. We also had a pepperoni pizza. Dave thinks the pizza was a cross between Little Caesar's and Round Table. It didn't have as much toppings and cheese as a Round Table pizza, but did have a nice yeasty crust.

The atmosphere was nice and it was decorated with a lot of photos of local kid's sports teams and plaques. It was late, so there weren't many people, but the staff was friendly. It was very laid back, and the plates for the pizza were ordinary paper plates.

Overall, it was a good dinner and the most inexpensive one yet!
